Te Whatu Ora

Amanda is currently Principal Legal Counsel, Northern Region for Health NZ I Te Whatu Ora. She is a member of Health New Zealand I Te Whatu Ora’s AI and Algorithm Expert Advisory Group.
Amanda has worked in the health sector for almost thirty years. Until February 2023 Amanda was General Counsel at Waitemata District Health Board for 16 years. Her portfolio at Waitemata included advising on a broad range of IT projects and privacy issues, chairing the Privacy and Security Governance Group, chairing the Northern Regional Privacy Advisors Group, and membership of Waitemata’s Artificial Intelligence group.
For the last year Amanda has provided privacy and legal advice on Health NZ I Te Whatu Ora’s Hira programme. The Hira programme will provide:
• a New Zealand Patient Summary app/website allowing healthcare consumers/whānau to see their health information in one place and update some of it.
• a platform allowing healthcare providers to access and update patient data
• a secure, controlled digital ecosystem enabling vendors to build apps for healthcare consumers, whānau and providers, to help people manage their own health.
