John Bassett is a Team Manager in the Ministry of Social Development’s (MSD) Legal Team, and is a Workstream Lead for MSD’s Transformation Programme, Te Pae Tawhiti. This role allows him to integrate his interests in the law, technology, and enterprise transformation and apply them to changes to the way one of New Zealand’s biggest government departments delivers services to kiwis. John’s career at MSD has traversed a wide range of legal and non-legal management roles, including past roles as Deputy Chief Legal Advisor, Director Regional Policy, and Director Shared Services. Having returned to MSD Legal during Covid, John recently completed his LLM at Auckland University in public international law.
